Affiliate disclosure and advertising policy
Two things pay for this site: affiliate commissions from Amazon, and display advertising from Google. Neither one buys editorial coverage. Here is exactly how each works.
Amazon Associates
SkyDroneNews.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
In plain terms: when you follow a link from this site to Amazon and buy something, Amazon may pay us a small commission. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or go to Amazon directly. We never receive your payment details, your address or your order contents.
How we mark affiliate links
- Every affiliate link carries a visible "Affiliate link" label near it.
- Every page containing affiliate links carries a disclosure above those links, not buried at the bottom.
- Affiliate links use
rel="sponsored nofollow"so search engines can identify them as paid, per Google's link-qualification guidance. - We do not cloak, mask or shorten Amazon links in ways that hide the destination.
Things we deliberately do not do
- No prices on our pages. Amazon prices change constantly and the Associates Operating Agreement does not permit publishers to display static price or review data pulled from the site. Our links go to live Amazon results so what you see is current.
- No affiliate links in email. The Associates Program prohibits affiliate links in email, offline material and downloadable documents. Our newsletter links back to articles on this site instead.
- No incentivised clicking. We will never ask you to click a link or an ad to support us.
- No links to unlawful products. We do not link to drone jammers, GPS spoofers or counter-drone mitigation hardware, because marketing those devices is itself prohibited under the Communications Act.
Google AdSense
This site displays advertising served by Google and its partners. Ad slots are labelled "Advertisement" and are visually separated from editorial content so there is no chance of confusing one for the other. We do not place ads inside the body of an article in a way that mimics a story, and we never encourage clicks.
Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Details of what is collected and how to opt out are in our privacy and cookies policy. If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, ad personalisation cookies are not set until you agree via our consent banner.
Editorial independence
The rules we hold ourselves to:
- Commission rates never influence what we recommend or how we rank it.
- No manufacturer, retailer or advertiser reviews our coverage before publication or has any right to.
- We accept no payment for reviews, placements, links or favourable coverage. If that ever changes, the arrangement will be disclosed prominently on the page it affects.
- Where we receive a product to test, we say so on that page.
- We write negative assessments of products we link to when they deserve it. A page that only ever praises things is an advertisement wearing a review's clothes.
FTC compliance
US Federal Trade Commission guidance requires that material connections between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation. We aim to exceed that standard rather than meet its minimum. If you think a disclosure on any page is unclear or too easy to miss, tell us and we will fix it.
