Privacy and cookies policy
Short version: we collect very little ourselves. Google's advertising and Amazon's affiliate tracking collect more, and this page tells you what and how to stop it.
Who we are
SkyDroneNews.com. Contact: privacy@skydronenews.com. Publisher: add your legal entity name and postal address here before launch — several of the rights frameworks below require an identifiable controller.
What we collect directly
- Nothing that identifies you, by default. Reading this site requires no account and no personal data.
- Server logs. Our host records IP address, browser type, referring page and timestamp for security and reliability. Standard for any web server.
- Newsletter email. Only if you submit it. Used to send the weekly brief and nothing else. Unsubscribe any time from any issue.
- Consent choice. Stored in your browser's local storage so we do not ask again. It never leaves your device.
Advertising cookies (Google)
This site uses Google AdSense. The disclosures Google requires publishers to make:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
- Google's own handling of data is described in the Google Privacy & Terms partner sites notice.
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we do not load Google's advertising scripts at all until you agree via our consent banner. Choosing "Essential only" means no advertising or measurement cookies are set. You can change your choice any time from the "Cookie choices" link in the footer.
Affiliate cookies (Amazon)
When you follow one of our links to Amazon, Amazon sets a cookie recording that the referral came from us so any qualifying purchase is credited. That cookie is Amazon's, governed by Amazon's privacy notice, and it does not report your purchases back to us in identifiable form. We see aggregate commission reports, never who you are or what you bought.
Fonts and hosting
We load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers that includes your IP address. Google's font service documentation describes its handling. If you prefer to avoid this entirely, self-hosting the fonts removes the third-party request — publishers operating under strict EU interpretations often do exactly that.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data, and to object to processing. Where we rely on consent — advertising and measurement cookies — you may withdraw it at any time without affecting prior lawful processing. Our lawful bases are consent for advertising cookies and legitimate interests for security logging. You may also complain to your national supervisory authority.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA) or a comparable US state
You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" — a definition broad enough to cover cross-context behavioural advertising. Choosing "Essential only" in our banner exercises that opt-out on this site. We honour Global Privacy Control signals where our platform transmits them. We do not knowingly sell personal information and we do not discriminate against anyone who exercises these rights.
To exercise any right, email privacy@skydronenews.com.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Retention
Server logs are retained for the period set by our host, typically no more than 90 days. Newsletter emails are retained until you unsubscribe. Consent choices live in your browser until you clear them.
Changes
Material changes will be posted here with a revised effective date, and we will re-prompt for consent where the law requires it.
